Edit and refine a playbook
Last updated: 2 October 2026
You can change a playbook at any time: edit an entry by hand when you know exactly what should change, or open Refine Playbook and ask the AI to propose changes when the update spans several entries or you want the playbook compared against another document.
You need edit access to the playbook. Editing changes the guidance every future review uses, so follow your organisation’s approval process before changing shared content.
Open edit mode
- Open the playbook.
- Select Edit Playbook.
- Add or change the relevant rule, fallback, wording or note.
- Save the playbook and leave edit mode.
If Edit Playbook is not available, you do not have permission to change that playbook. Ask the playbook owner or workspace administrator for access. If your organisation allows personal playbooks, you may be able to copy the playbook into a personal workspace and edit the copy — see Exporting and copying playbooks.
Edit a playbook during a review
If a review identifies a recurring issue that the playbook does not cover:
- Open the relevant playbook entry in edit mode.
- Add or revise the rule.
- Save the playbook.
- Return to the review.
- Rerun the affected entry so the review uses the updated guidance.
Do not add matter-specific wording to a shared playbook unless it represents an approved position for future reviews.
Refine a playbook with AI Chat
Use Refine Playbook to propose changes across an existing playbook. You can compare it with another document, find gaps or ask for changes based on a stated policy or jurisdiction. Review and approve each change before applying it, so you stay in control of what the playbook says.
Refine the Playbook
Start a refinement
- Open the playbook.
- Select Edit Playbook.
- Open Refine Playbook.
- Describe the change you want.
- Attach any document that should support the request.
For example, you can upload a marked-up third-party agreement and ask DraftPilot to compare it with the playbook. The video then asks DraftPilot to add the identified fallback positions to the playbook. You can also ask a jurisdiction-specific legal research question, such as what would need to change in the indemnification section if the playbook applied under German law.
Review proposed changes
DraftPilot shows the proposed additions and edits. Apply all changes together or choose individual updates.
Good requests
- Compare this playbook with the attached agreement and identify positions that are missing.
- Strengthen the fallback options for limitation of liability without changing the primary position.
- Identify entries that may need review for contracts governed by German law. Cite the sources used.
